Stephen Weiss was born on April 3, 1983, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He began his ice hockey career with the Plymouth Whalers of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). In his major junior career, he was one of the highest-ranked skaters in the North American Central Scouting Report and was part of the OHL First All-Rookie Team. His impressive performance in his pre-professional career made his way to the NHL.
