He began his junior career in ice hockey in the 2000–2001 seasons with the Moose Jaw Warriors in the Western Hockey League (WHL). This year, he became the Scholastic Player of the Year. In the following season, with a trade deal, he became part of the Seattle Thunderbirds. Playing with this team, he became the team’s Most Dedicated Player. Brooks began his professional life in 2004 and ended his career in the professional arena in 2018.

His professional career is mingled with AHL and NHL. In his professional life, he ran after the puck in the field of ice hockey representing the Ottawa Senators, Washington Capitals, Kloten Flyers, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Los Angeles Kings. In the 2001 NHL Draft, Ottawa Senators chose him in 193rd overall.
