In the 1981 NBA draft, San Diego Clippers picked him in 8th overall in the 1st round. The starting of his journey with the San Diego Clippers lasted till 1983. Later, Tom joined the Seattle SuperSonics, where he played from 1983 to 1988. Later, he signed with the Phoenix Suns and played for this team from 1988 to 1993. Then he made a contract with the Utah Jazz for the next two seasons.
Career in Isreal
Besides the NBA, he also played in the Israel Super League (ISL), where he played from 1995-1996. The memory of the Israel career was the golden part of his life. During his tenure with the Israel team Maccabi Tel Aviv, he favored his team to win the Israeli League championship in 1996.
Playing for the Israel team, Tom returned to his old address. After returning to the NBA, he again started to play for the Charlotte Hornets in 1997. The last games of his life were with the Philadelphia 76ers in the 1997-1998 seasons. In his last career match, he scored six points, two rebounds, and two steals against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
